Yonatan est né le 23 août 1958 et a grandi à New York. Yonatan Bar Rashi est le fils aîné de feu Avraham Bar Rashi (anciennement Allan Gittler), un grand guitariste qui a travaillé avec Gil Evans, Elvin Jones et d'autres. Le père de Yonatan a utilisé la technique classique de la guitare électrique et a conçu la guitare minimaliste Gittler, le seul instrument de musique de la collection permanente du Museum of Modern Art de New York.

Dès son plus jeune âge, Yonatan a commencé à frapper sur toutes choses. Sa sœur lui a offert sa première paire de "congas" quand il avait 10 ans - deux barils de cornichon de Chinatown avec des têtes en peau de chèvre sur des jantes maintenues par des pinces en C. Son premier concert public a eu lieu lors de grandes soirées à la fin des années 60 à New York et à Woodstock, avec des groupes africains, dont les batteurs d'Odetta.

Yonatan a joué et enseigné au niveau international pendant 40 ans. Percussionniste/batteur virtuose, il s'est produit à l'étranger dans des tournées de concerts, des festivals et des enregistrements en Europe avec des sommités telles que le bassiste Victor Wooten, le guitariste Estas Tonne, les chanteurs/compositeurs tziganes/jazz Ida Kelarova et Desiderius Duzda, l'orchestre philharmonique tchèque, le saxophoniste/compositeur caribéen Luther François, et bien d'autres.

Yonatan se produit et enregistre actuellement en Israël : Il a joué avec Boaz Sharabi, Shuli Natan, Dikla, Yair Dallal, Ya'akov Rotblit, Shmulik Kraus, Nadav Hollander et bien d'autres, ainsi qu'avec ses propres ensembles.

Yonatan was born August 23, 1958, and raised in NYC. Yonatan Bar Rashi is the eldest son of the late Avraham Bar Rashi (formerly Allan Gittler), a time-bending guitar great who worked with Gil Evans, Elvin Jones and others. Yonatan's father used classical technique on electric guitar and designed the minimalist Gittler Guitar, the only musical instrument in the permanent collection of NY's Museum of Modern Art.

Yonatan began knocking on things from early youth. His sister got him his first pair of "congas" when he was 10 years old - two pickle barrels from Chinatown with goatskin heads on rims held on by C clamps.  His first public playing was at some big parties in the late 60's in NYC and Woodstock, with african groups, including the drummers for Odetta. Yonatan has played and taught internationally for 40 years. Virtuoso percussionist/drummer, Yonatan has performed abroad in concert tours, festivals and recordings in Europe with such luminaries as bassist Victor Wooten, guitarist Estas Tonne, gypsy/jazz singers/composers Ida Kelarova and Desiderius Duzda, the czech philarmonic orchestra, caribbean saxophonisy/composer Luther François, and many more.

Yonatan currently performs and records in Israel : he has performed with Boaz Sharabi, Shuli Natan, Dikla, Yair Dallal, Ya'akov Rotblit, Shmulik Kraus, Nadav Hollander and many others, as well as with his own ensembles.
